PALAKKAD

Scenic view of Palakkad district in Kerala

About Palakkad

Palakkad is the cradle of a beautiful culture. It is known as the granary of Kerala and the land of fertile fields. It is rare to find native crops that do not thrive in the fertile soil enriched by the Bharathapuzha River. Silent Valley is the foremost tourist attraction in Palakkad district. This rain-soaked forest, where chirping birds do not disturb the peace, stands as a wonder. Nelliampathi and the Walayar gorge also add to Palakkad’s charm. There are villages where Brahmin customs are still faithfully preserved; these villages, known as Agraharams, reflect the ancient heritage of Kerala. Palakkad is also renowned for its variety of vegetarian dishes. In Ramasseri village alone, the soft and delicate Ramasseri idli, which resembles a flower, is very famous. Palakkad Fort, Malampuzha Dam, and Malampuzha Garden are popular favorites among tourists without a doubt. The sky-touching mountain ranges, the rice paddies spreading as far as the eyes can see, and the beautifully patterned courtyards all reveal the rural essence of Kerala in Palakkad.
